Maine Vest-a-Dog is dedicated to protecting Maine's police dogs with bullet/stab-proof vests. Each vest costs $850 and is made of the same material as vests worn by human officers.
Police K-9s are a valuable member of the law enforcement community. They track and apprehend suspects, sniff for drugs or bombs, and help locate missing persons.
"Remember, police dogs don't choose their lives -
they deserve to be protected!"
Kelly watches Governor King sign the 2002 law that allows Maine Vest-a-Dog to raise money to protect police dogs.

Fundraising ideas:
"Coins for Canines" Penny Drive - Maine Vest-a-Dog will make arrangements to have a local K-9 team visit the school to do a demonstration and teach students about the brave work that police dogs perform everyday. Then each homeroom has a donation can and students are encouraged to donate whatever they can over a 2 week period. Keep track of how much each room donates and the room with the highest total is rewarded with a pizza party or ice cream buffet!
West Bath Elementary School (with only 150 students) earned $700 in 2 weeks!
"Snack-time Bake Sales" - Students donate homemade snack items (fruit, cupcakes, veggies, cookies) and sell them to all students during morning break.
CIVIC GROUPS
"Bowl-a-Thon" - sponsor an evening of bowling at a local bowling center. Contact us for more details!
"Pet Walk" - Sponsor a pet walk at a local walking trail. Walking teams get sponsors and learn more about police dogs at the same time!
"Festival Booth" - Sponsor a table or booth as a local festival. Sell items of your choice - food, beverage, handmade doggie items -- whatever you wish!
INDIVIDUALS
"Family Challenge" - "Adopt" a local K-9 team and challenge your extended family to make donations... you would be surprised how quickly a family can raise funds for a vest!
"Community Challenge" - "Adopt" a local K-9 team and challenge local civic or franternal organizations to make donations.
